Last Friday, I wrote about a Consumer Reports magazine study that found EPA’s fuel economy standards were inflated by as much as 50%, and particularly overstated mileage estimates for hybrids. On Tuesday, the EPA announced it would overhaul its standards and that the more accurate ratings would apply to 2008 models. While this change does not require that cars be more fuel efficient, it is a positive step toward building support for such an overdue reform.
