Vancouver Council Votes for $1-Billion SRO Purchase Plan

(Editor’s Note: Last week, Vancouver announced a dramatic plan to buy up to 105 of the city’s SRO hotels. I was flown up to the city in 2016 to talk to city officials about upgrading their SRO stock. I saw living conditions as bad as we had in San Francisco in the 1980’s. It’s great to see Vancouver now moving in the right direction. Here is the story of how Vancouver was moved to take this critical step and what it means for the city).
