U.S. Veterans …

by on January 18, 2008

To the Editor:

The January 14, 2008 article concerning the plight of the US Veterans is disturbing. To make matters worse the President is looking for ways to cut corners to finance the war. Believe it or not there was a plan to sell off a 300 acre parcel of land deeded to the VA in 1888 for the use of Veterans by two families in Los Angeles. Washington claimed the property was too valuable an asset to be sitting around unused so it was set to be auctioned off to the highest bidder. This property is adjacent to the military cemetery and federal building adjacent to the celebrity populated neighborhood of Brentwood. It is disgraceful and hypocritical for something like this to happen in America. Luckily the property quietly reverted back to the VA once the national media started to get wind of what was going on. As a true blue Republican I am floored that all of our communities are potential targets to sell government land from under our feet, and that includes our national parks.

Sincerely,
Don Norte
