To the Editor…

Dear Editor,

So much smoke over the new standards. Let’s clear this up a bit. You can drive truckloads of knowledge through the new standards, just like the old standards. The point is:

Our kids are failing.

Their academic non-achievement has put us behind other states, not to mention other countries. So much remedial work has to still be accomplished because the educational establishment has embraced one losing fad after another for decades. Don’t argue money, cultural preparation, or shadowy benefactors – it’s the kids and their abysmal performance. You want to talk California? Then remember that the exit exam required for all high school students is based on 10th grade material, not 12th.
