Ms. Woldow offers a clear case for why we need soda taxes and why these don’t hurt low income communities of color. As a nutritionist who sees the negative impact sugar sweetened beverages have on the diet quality of low income communities I fully support efforts to educate people on this issue and to create more funding for programs to help these communities be healthier. It is disingenuous to rail against soda taxes as hurting people, when the access to low cost, low quality food and beverages have a much greater impact on the health and wellbeing of low income communities. I hope this article becomes mandatory reading for anyone taking a stand on these issues.
