Subject: Lessons from the Tenderloin

Randy Shaw’s article “Lessons from the Tenderloin” is a timely reminder

of the issues involving the impact of urban gentrification and the

displacement of lower income and homeless people. It should be noted

that although “skid row” is used as a common term for poor and

underserved neighborhoods, Los Angeles’ Skid Row has the dubious honor

of being spelled with capital letters – similar to San Francisco’s

Tenderloin district which Shaw refers to in his well-written article.
