Subject: Will Wiener Attacks Sink Kim?

For Sup. Scott Wiener and his supporters to call Sup. Jane Kim untrustworthy is a clear case of the pot calling the kettle black.

In September 2011, the Sunshine Ordinance Task Force found unanimously that Sups. Wiener, David Chiu, Malia Cohen and Eric Mar had violated local and state open-meeting laws when they rammed through a Parkmerced development contract into which Chiu had slipped 14 pages of amendments at the last second. Soon afterward, Wiener surreptitiously asked the Budget and Legislative Analyst to survey all city departments on how much sunshine-law compliance was costing them (very little, it turned out, and the task force’s work actually saves the city immeasurable sums in court costs).

The following April, Chiu and Wiener orchestrated a retaliatory purge of the task force. And by failing to appoint at least one member with a physical disability, per Sunshine Ordinance Sec. 67.30(a), the board forced the task force to take a five-month hiatus, exacerbating an already thick caseload of complaints.

FYI, I served on the task force from 2002-2014 and was its chair from July 2009 to June 2011.
