Subject: Portland – Whitest American City
I guess it’s really true, there are only lies and statistics.
I always kind of consider Portland a fairly progressive city. So, I looked up some demographic stats. Asian population of Portland is about 10% which is around the West Coast average. But, Asians are now considered white? Chinese Exclusion Act anyone? Asian income and educational attainment equals or exceeds Whites.
Blacks are sort of into 3 demographic groups. Fully engaged in American economy about 1/3. Seemingly permanent underclass about 1/3. And another 1/3 in the middle.
There truly are elements of a post-racial society in places like Portland and other sections of America. Why not report that direction?
