Assessor Phil Ting won the endorsement of the San Francisco Labor Council Monday night, prevailing over Supervisor Gerardo Sandoval by a 47-14 vote. The vote mirrors Ting’s strong showing at the Democratic County Central Committee, and confirms the reluctance of both bodies to buck Mayor Newsom’s choice for Assessor.. Sandoval had won the endorsement of the cities largest public employees union, SEIU Local 790, but this failed to sway the votes of other unions. Labor is expected to mount a major get out the vote effort in November to defeat Prop 75, and its endorsement could provide a big boost for Ting.
