The Small Businesses of Divisadero: A Photo Essay

The Board of Supervisors will take up Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi’s proposal today to force chain stores into obtaining a special permit from the city before they can open up shop on Divisadero between Haight and Turk streets. Mirkarimi designed the proposal to help protect the diverse array of small businesses that operate in the area. Beyond Chron photographer Kristina Barker takes an intimate look today at those businesses – their owners, their buildings, and their patrons.
