The statewide rent control repeal measure will be on the June 2008 ballot, and we need to start our campaign to save rent control now! Please come to the citywide Save Rent Control Convention this Saturday, January 19th at 1:00 PM, at Centro del Pueblo, 474 Valencia St. (at 16th St; accessible by BART & MUNI 14 & 49 lines) to help us plan and kick off our campaign here in San Francisco.
The first part of our strategy —getting a competing measure on the same ballot — has been successful, thanks to many peoples’ hard work. Now we need to begin the work of campaigning. Lots of volunteers will be needed as we will only save rent control through our collective hard work. San Francisco is a key battleground in this fight and we need to make sure the city votes overwhelmingly for rent control and turns out in record numbers.
We will gather for a “teach-in” to learn about this dangerous measure and the statewide strategy to fight it. Then we will brainstorm ideas about what we want to do in San Francisco and break into working groups to plan strategies around fundraising, voter registration, media, actions & rallies, internet campaigning, voter education and other ideas. Please come: we need every renter’s help and we need it now!
