Ms. Woldow helps to explain in lucid prose why we can’t offer organic, locally sourced food, cooked from scratch without paying more for this than what we have available from the USDA School Meals program. All the programs that do better than the SFUSD in this regard are subsidized by local voters, grant funds or other supplemental funding streams. Thank you for pointing out that good will cannot replace the need for adequate funding. What is remarkable is all that has been done such as brown rice, salad bars, whole grains, fruit vs juice, while labor costs, fuel and food costs continue to increase.
