If you are a fan of Latin jazz and salsa, Wayne Wallace and Rita Hargraves have just released a two-CD package that will make your day. Salsa De La Bahia is a companion piece to Hargrave’s film, The Last Mambo, which will be released next spring. The CD includes liner notes from longtime Bay Area jazz journalist and KCSM music director Jesse “Chuy” Varela, as well as an image from local jazz clubs, including the Tenderloin’s historic Blackhawk. I often get sent CD’s to review, and am reluctant to do so unless I can recommend the music without hesitation. The just released Salsa De La Bahia offers 22 songs that you will be playing over and over, and has me looking forward to the release of The Last Mambo next spring.
