Editor,
Thanks for the piece on Jim Webb. We’re struggling to get local
coverage on this from papers like the Washington Post–but it’s great to
see that folks nationally–and on the grass roots level here in
Virginia, seem to “get it”. (When I say “we” I’m speaking from the
point of view of an unpaid volunteer who has donated time and money to
the campaign).
BTW, that “xenophobic sloganeering” comment by the Post editorial board
was absolutely baseless. Webb has advocated wrapping worker protections
into trade agreements (which would raise–gasp–labor costs for
employers) and allowing HB-1 visa holders to unionize. Somehow the Post
editorial boards views on “free trade” are so warped that they view this
stance as xenophobic. Go figure.
That Post editorial was a shameful and disheartening episode for a
long-time Post reader. It really made my stomach churn. It’s articles
like yours that are a much needed a well-grounded call to action.
Thanks for helping out!
Regards,
Jim Terp
