Correction to Section 8 Story

by on March 7, 2006

Our March 2 story on the allocation of $100,000 from the General fund to cover federal cuts to Section 8 housing incorrectly stated that the Board of Supervisors voted to approve this allocation. In fact, they only continued it, with a reccomendation from the Budget Analyst that the funds come from another source. In addition, the funds would not be used for rent subsidies – instead, the money is for homelessness prevention services, including counseling and case advocacy for all federally-subsidized tenants. Finally, the difference between $1539 versus $1693 referred to the federally-determined fair market rent versus the San Francisco Housing Authoriy payment standard, not the rise in rents due to federal cuts.

Beyond Chron regrets the errors.
