Concerts at the Cadillac: The Tectonics

by Paul Hogarth on October 21, 2010

Join us at 12:30 p.m. this Friday, October 22nd at the Cadillac Hotel — for a free concert by the Tectonics, a Bay Area based modern jazz quartet that has been performing together continuously for over five years. Performing both originals and jazz covers written by such notable composers as Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane and Charles Mingus, the Tectonics are fast becoming one of the fresh new sounds in jazz. Gabe Davis, the band’s bassist, has played at the Cadillac Hotel three times before with three other bands. He will be joined by Michael Hirsch on tenor sax, Jacob Smolowe on the piano and Mitchell Wilcox on drums.

“Concerts at the Cadillac” is a monthly series of Friday noontime concerts — featuring the Patricia Walkup Memorial Piano, an 1884 Steinway Concert Grand that for decades was housed in a castle in Massachusetts. The Cadillac Hotel is at 380 Eddy Street (@ Leavenworth), and the concert is free of charge.
