Bush Fear-Mongering is Working

by Randy Shaw on February 3, 2006

It began with illegal spying on peace groups and others, went on to the very public and illegal arrest of Cindy Sheehan for wearing an anti-war t-shirt, and even resulted in the wife of a Republican Congressperson being removed from the President’s State of the Union Speech for wearing a shirt reading “Support our Troops.” Now we have everyday Americans fearful of being sanctioned because they share the name of an activist. Consider the e-mail I received yesterday:

I have the same name as you, I am a democrat, between moderate and liberal, am not very active politically…I googled my name for the fun of it and found YOU… I am worried that when I soon travel, my name or your name will be on a list? Have you had any problems?

Yes, It can happen here.
