Bay Area Leaders to Hold 24-Hour Vigil in Support of EFCA

Broad coalition to call for law that would restore workers’ freedom to form and join unions

Beginning Wednesday, May 6 at 12:00 noon, Bay Area union workers and community members will hold a day-long / overnight vigil at the Federal Building in support of legislation that would restore workers’ freedom to form and join unions. Vigil speakers will include San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris, San Francisco Board of Supervisors President David Chiu, community and labor leaders, academics, interfaith groups and workers who have been harassed or fired for trying to join a union. The Kick-off rally is at noon, testimony about EFCA starts at 5:00pm, and at 9:30 p.m. there will be a Candlelight Vigil. The event culminates at noon on May 7 with closing remarks and call to action featuring California Labor Federation Executive Secretary-Treasurer Art Pulaski.
