That Andy Stern would join a corporate board of directors is no surprise to me. He was, after all, president of SEIU, and that’s pretty much a corporate board of directors. It’s a small step from class collaborator to class traitor. So, to hell with him. The question is: what steps, if any, are the remaining members of the SEIU Politburo going to take to undo the damage Stern has done? My bet is they do nothing, because they see nothing wrong in what Stern has done. It’s a Stalinoid governance structure; I bet they wish they could follow in his footsteps. Time will tell.

As an unemployed member of SEIU, I could see exactly what you said in your article. But you failed to say the Locals such as 32bj’s Mike Fishman does his jig whenever Andy said so. That’s why the pension fund, which was 300 million over under the Gus administration (not to say he was god) and its not 305 million down and 63% funded. All this to do battle against member and indictments. Their legal bills alone are staggering. I guess shit does roll down hill.

People should not be surprised to hear a so-called “labor leader” like former SEIU President Andy Stern joining a multi-national corporation. The fact of the matter is he’s not a true labor leader for the working people; he was disguising or pretending himself to be a leader, in order to use the union to get power. He was a wolf wearing a chicken clothes for more than 15 years fooling SEIU hard working dues-paying members. He abandoned the workers, and he ruined SEIU’s brand name.

Why no useful information about the Berkeley Bowl story, such as what benefits the union managed to negotiate for the workers? How much are the dues charged by the union? Facts allow the populace to make informed decisions, like where to shop. Opinions are essentially useless, except maybe in high school cliques.

Just read your story about the SF Fire Department. It sucks how these overpaid chiefs get to hide behind the mantra of “front-line defense” in order to justify their idiotic sense of entitlement and discriminatory behavior against civilian workers. If you come to the District 6 Candidates forum tonight (sponsored by the SF Young Democrats) you should ask the candidates a question regarding the Fire Department and its out-of-whack budget.

Sit/Lie is an effort put forth by the new Police Chief because he believes in CompStat. But CompStat leads to scandals as we see from the expose in the Village Voice. They don’t need Sit/Lie to implement the changes those on the Haight Neighborhood association are looking for, they need to implement Sit/Lie to use the metrics CompStat pushes them to use. It didn’t work in New York, it shouldn’t be tried here in S.F.
