Subject: California Invented Christmas?

The Christmas story must be read as humor and fantasy.

Evidently the humorist has never read any books about “the historical Jesus”. Otherwise he would realize that December 25 has nothing to do with the birthday of Jesus the Nazarene. Instead it was the date of the Solstice, as reckoned by the Julian calendar in Emperor Constantine’s time. Hence 12/25 was celebrated as the birthday of Mithra, a Sun god who was worshiped by many soldiers in the Roman Legion.

But, so what?

In the contemporary U$A, the holiday is dominated by mercenary corporations.

I think of it as “Commercemas”,

or, for short, “Cashmas”.
