I have lived in Richmond since 1998. When I heard about Richmond Standard, I checked it out twice. I found it less informative than any other source of information about the town, which includes Richmond Confidential, La Voz, The Pulse, West County Times, and even the San Francisco Chronicle. Chevron is trying very hard to show how community oriented they are. Other efforts include buying up almost all the billboards in town for their messages and giving some money to local nonprofits. It is a lot of money for the nonprofits, but chump change for Chevron. Of all their efforts, only the charitable giving concerns me in terms of having an impact on the negative public opinion about the company.
