Megan Jacobs’ Unheralded but Impressive “Prosperity”

by Randy Shaw on November 30, 2007

We regularly get sent unsolicited CD’s, and few have been worth much of a listen. But Megan Jacobs, a booker at Los Angeles’ Roxy music club, sent me her new CD with a personal note that motivated me to play it—and was I happily surprised. Sounding like a cross between Natalie Merchant and Rickie Lee Jones, Jacobs breaks from the pack of singer-songwriters to forge a distinctive style. And people for whom I have played her new CD “Prosperity” have told me they plan to go out and buy it—which says a lot in an era when CD sales of even top artists have plunged due to Internet downloads. You can hear Jacobs at Highly Recommended.
